3 Medical Schools In Mindanao For Future Doctors

If you answered “Yes,” then you might to consider pursuing a career as a doctor. There are many things that you have to consider if you want to work in the medical field in the Philippines. Aside from deciding which pre-med course is right for you, you also have to prepare quite a big sum of money for various expenses in med school (that’s why applying for a medical scholarship is a must!).

There are many medical schools in Davao that offer high-quality medical training for the students. However, if you leave in outside Davao, don’t worry yet. Here are other medical schools in Mindanao you might want to check out:

 

Ateneo de Zamboanga University

Ateneo de Zamboanga University is a Catholic and Jesuit university in Western Mindanao. The university has the School of Medicine. The school is accredited by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted Institutional Accreditation to Ateneo de Zamboanga.

Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine offers programs in Master of Public Health and Master in Health Professions Education (MHPed). The school’s curriculum is a Problem Based Learning and Community Oriented Medical education. Medical students are exposed to real or simulated problems after each class lessons. A large percentage of the medical program is based in the community. During their fourth year in medical school, students implement health programs for health development as well as interventional research.

Mindanao State University

Mindanao State University (MSU) is a public higher education institution. MSU’s main campus is located in Marawi, while the other branches are in Iligan, General Santos, Naawan, Maguindanao, Sulu, Buug, and Tawi-Tawi. The university has the College of Medicine is located in MSU Iligan. The college is one of the leading medical schools in the region. In the 2019 Physicians Licensure Examination, two MSU alumni landed on the top 10 highest places in the board. Mareeya Rowena Malinao Rizon ranked 8th with an average of 87.58% while Denim Embalzado Maghanoy ranked 6th with an average of 88.17%.

Xavier University – Ateneo De Cagayan

Xavier University is a private Catholic university in Cagayan De Oro, Northern Mindanao. The university has the Dr Jose P Rizal School of Medicine that offers a degree in Doctor in Medicine. The school is housed in a 5 – storey building located at the east side of Xavier University campus. The building is composed of community health care centers, out-patient department, laboratories (pathology, pharmacology, microbiology and parasitology, gross anatomy), and a medical library. In the 2015 Physician Licensure Examination, Xavier University was listed as one of the top performing schools with an average of 96.72% passing percentage.
