5 Ways To Stay Productive Over Summer Break

Summer break has officially started! Yay! You’ve finished the final exams, turned off your 5:00 am alarm and finally get to eat breakfast (because you actually have time now). You might be wondering what to do this summer. While it may be tempting to sleep or binge Netflix all day, there are also other activities you can do to make your summer productive.

Here are five ways to enjoy the summer break while also preparing for the next school year:

1. Declutter your room.

One of the most challenging tasks for any student is keeping the bedroom tidy. With the limited space you have for all your stuff, how do you maximize a cramped bedroom?

  • Clean your closet.

You may have a different set of clothes for every occasion, but the reality is you don’t actually wear them all, right? Pull everything out and pick only those that you often need. What do you do with the discarded stuff? Earn some cash by selling them online or through a garage sale.

  • Organize your study room.

Sort through your papers. Place all your school supplies and stationery items in a handy holder.

Want to know other things that can spark joy in your room? Here’s a guide to the KonMari Method for students like you.

2. Get a part-time job or internship.

Internships are a great opportunity to hone your skills and experience a real working environment. You can even earn money through paid internships. If you don’t know where to apply for an internship, here are clever ways to do so:

  • Ask your friends and family.
  • Talk to your professor or a school alumnus/alumna for help.
  • Join relevant Facebook groups.
  • Go to job search websites.
  • Send your resume to your dream company.

If you think it’s too late to look for a summer job, you could be wrong. There might be small legit gigs in your area that you can try. You’ll learn from the experience and have a chance to meet people who can help you find your dream job in the future.

3. Try volunteering.

Summer break is an opportunity for you to expand your knowledge. This period is a great time to discover new ways to learn outside your regular school setting. Aside from these benefits, here are five reasons why you should get into volunteering:

  • You get to solve real-world problems.
  • You gain better exposure to your surroundings.
  • You can make new friends.
  • You can get experiences that are relevant to your future job.
  • Volunteering is good for your mental health.

4. Enroll in an online class.

Learn a new skill or work on your weak areas. Develop your communication skills or learn how to code! If you’re worried about having to spend on tuition fees, don’t worry. There are tons of online courses that you can take for free!

5. Prepare for your college entrance exam.

Summer break is a great time to prepare for your dream university’s entrance exam. If you’re an incoming college student, it might be helpful to start gathering all your documents. Here’s a college application checklist that you can follow. Take some practice tests, too! Here are online courses to help you prepare for your college entrance exam.

Above all, remember to spend your vacation well. It’s summer vacation, after all. Take some time this summer to bond with your family and friends. Give yourself a moment to relax and unwind.

While you may not be able to accomplish all these summer activities, you can definitely pick one from the list to make the most out of your summer break.
