Industrial Engineering (IE) is one of the most popular degrees in the STEM field. It is a five-year course designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in the profession such as designing, managing, and supervising in industrial settings. IE is one of the most interesting branches of engineering primarily focused on determining the most effective ways to utilize people, materials, machines, energy, and information in creating products or providing services.

 

To be a qualified professional, graduates from this course must pass first the Certified Industrial Engineering and the Professional IE Certifications. Recognizing the important role that educational institutions play in producing highly-competent professionals in this field, the Commission on Higher Education continues to award different schools that show outstanding performance in IE. If you are aiming to take this course, here are 8 of some of the best industrial schools in the Philippines based on CHED’s Centers of Excellence and Development:

1. Adamson University

Adamson University is a private school located in Ermita, Manila that was founded in 1932. In 2011, the institution was included in the top 201+ university in Asia based on the Quacquarelli Symonds Asia University Rankings, making it rank in the 9th place nationwide and 5th in Metro Manila. Adamson is a powerhouse in STEM courses, designated as a Center of Development (COD) in Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, and Industrial Engineering. Among its recent feats is Raylin Platon, an alumna who topped the 2016 Industrial Engineering exam and garnered 93.51% score.

 

2. De La Salle University

The De La Salle University’s Industrial Engineering Department has been designated by CHED as a Center of Excellence among its other programs. The university’s IE curriculum provides ladderized B.S. Honors/M.S. Program for qualified Industrial Engineering students who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 before their senior level in the program. Accepted students are expected to obtain both BS and MS degree in 5 years and are provided with one-on-one faculty mentoring with a computer and an office space.

 

3. Mapua Institute of Technology

The Mapua Institute of Technology is widely known as one of the leading engineering schools in the country, being founded by the first registered architect in the Philippines Tomas Mapua. It is the first school in Southeast Asia to have accredited programs from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Mapua’s IE program is a COD while its other engineering degrees are designated as COE (Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Environmental and Sanitary).

 

4. Technological Institute of the Philippines – Quezon City

Since its foundation in 1962, the Technological University of the Philippines has continued to add to its roster of board topnotchers in various areas especially in engineering. In 2016, both of its campuses in Manila and Quezon City have been granted an Autonomous status from CHED. TIP-Quezon City has a number of COEs and CODs including its Industrial Engineering curriculum. In addition, TIP incorporates technopreneurial skills into its brand of engineering and technology through industry-academe research.

 

5. University of Santo Tomas

The University of Santo Tomas’ Faculty of Engineering is the oldest engineering school in the country, founded in 1907. The institution’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering received a Level III accreditation from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities and Full Accreditation from the Philippine Technological Council. As UST continues to grow its list of professional board topnotchers, it was awarded by CHED as a COD in IE.

 

6. Holy Angel University

Established in 1963, Holy Angel University’s School of Engineering has been recognized by various accrediting organizations in the country including the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU), Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP). Holy Angel University is also a Center of Development in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, and Teacher Education.

 

7. University of San Carlos

One of the top universities in the Philippines, University of San Carlos houses the Department of Industrial Engineering (CHED Center of Development). Since the department’s foundation in 1986, USC has been known to produce board topnotchers every year. The school offers Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Master of Science in Industrial Engineering, and Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering.

8. University of San Jose Recoletos

Dedicated to produce highly competent engineering graduates, the University of San Jose Recoletos is a Center of Development in Industrial Engineering, giving students access to a broad range of programs taught by distinguished faculty members. It also offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of Information Technology, Commerce, Education, Nursing, Arts and Sciences, and Law.
