Shoutout to our engineering students! What comes to mind when you read “engineering”? Do you still have a lot of questions about them? Are you wondering how taking this career path can help you in the long run? Or are you simply curious about engineering and want to know what this course has to offer?

If that’s the case, this Exploring Engineering series is for you!

There are different engineering courses for you to choose from: Aeronautical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental and Sanitary Engineering, Geodetic Engineering, Information Technology Education, Marine Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.

Although they all seem to offer the same set of skills, each course offers different specialties and can push you to do your best in whatever you do.

Each week, you will find an article explaining each engineering course, what each course has to offer, what subjects to expect under each course, and which course can lead to certain careers.

What Do You Need To Know About Engineering?

Do you love math and computers? Are you a problem solver by any chance? A creative who likes thinking outside the box and pays attention to each crucial detail? Are you a team leader AND a team member who also loves technical ideas?

If so, then engineering is for you!

Engineering is a field that deals with the manufacturing and creation of machines, buildings, and other structures using science and math to bring designs to life. If you’re an inventor by nature who loves designing different systems, taking an engineering course would make you feel much at home.

What are the subjects that you’ll find in engineering courses?

Aside from general subjects, each engineering course heavily revolves around math and science. Each of these subjects are meant to test and develop your ability to create designs from scratch, and band together with different engineering majors to solve various problems in one’s design.

These are subjects that you will need from your Senior High School strand if you decide to take engineering in college:

  • Algebra
  • Calculus
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Physics
  • Language Arts
  • Precalculus
  • Trigonometry
  • Chemistry

What possible professions can you apply after this?

Each engineering course is diverse in a sense that it offers a special set of specialties, most of which can lead to different career paths. Engineering courses will also require taking licensure exams before practicing as an engineer that specializes in that very same specialty. For example, mechanical engineer graduates will have to take a mechanical licensure board exam to pass before they can proceed to becoming professional mechanical engineering.

An engineering degree can give you the following career options:

  • Aerospace Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Agricultural Engineer
  • Automative Engineer
  • Biomedical Engineer
  • Chemical Engineer
  • Civil Engineer
  • Computer Designer
  • Drafting and Design Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Electronics and Communications Engineer
  • Geological Engineer
  • Marine Engineer
  • Petroleum Engineer
  • Software Engineer

Which Schools Offer Engineering Courses?
