Internship Alert! Check Out These 5 Environmental Organizations
Typhoons are stronger than ever. Rainforests are in flames. Climate change is getting worse each day. The message is loud and clear: The Earth is pleading for help. A voice tells you to do something. The little spark of greatness inside you is waiting to be unleashed.
If you weren’t able to join the climate protest in the streets, that’s okay. There’s a long list of things you can do to get started in saving the environment. For starters, movements don’t always have to be big. You can always start small. Here’s a cool idea: Become an intern in an environmental organization!
The next step? Find an organization that will turn your ideas into actions. Specifically, an organization that believes in the same advocacies as you do! To help you get started, check out these six environmental groups in the country that are working hard to save the planet. (They will be waiting for your internship applications!)
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
Of course, DENR is looking for interns that will assist them in the exploration, development, and conservation of the country’s natural resources. DENR offices are diversely located all over the country so it will not be difficult for you to send in your application. Find the nearest office in your location! If you have a heart for service and the environment, look no further, this internship is the one for you.
Greenpeace Philippines
Greenpeace is an independent global organization that aims to protect the environment and to promote peace. Ever heard of the Rainbow Warrior? That’s the Greenpeace ship that has been patrolling the world’s oceans since 2011.
They’ve been working on various environmental causes, too. Over the years, Greenpeace, together with its army of volunteers and partner communities, champions renewable energy, combats illegal fishing, and calls for climate justice.
If you want to be their intern, you have to prepare your CV and a motivation letter stating why you want to intern with Greenpeace. Give it your best shot and send it to jobs.ph@greenpeace.org.
Save Philippine Seas (SPS)
Aspiring merman and mermaids, this one’s for you! SPS aims to mobilize seatizens (pun intended) to protect the seas. They want you to save the seas, well, because the seas save us! Fun fact: Did you know about 70% of the oxygen we breathe comes from the ocean? Thanks to tiny organisms called plankton.
So yes, SPS is accepting interns! Passionate about saving the seas? Got love for puns? You’re definitely the intern they’re looking for. Currently, they’re searching for researchers, writers, bloggers, graphic designers, and illustrators to help boost their campaigns. Send them your application at info@savephilippineseas.org.
Haribon Foundation
“Haribon” is a reference to the Philippine Eagle, the king of the birds. Haribon Foundation advocates for biodiversity conservation by empowering small communities to work together. They’ve also been conducting fun activities like tree planting program and bird watching tours!
Through the years, the organization has been pushing for bird and marine conservation and environment education. They’re a perfect fit for tree huggers, animal lovers, and recycling mavens! Interested to be part of their internship roster? All you need to do is send an email to humanresources@haribon.org.ph.
AGREA
AGREA aims to tame the effects of climate change and establish food security in the country. As a social enterprise, they encourage young people like you to learn the art of farming. This way, you’ll be able to give back to the environment and repay the labor of our hard working farmers by promoting sustainable agriculture programs.
Seize the opportunity to be their intern, and hone your skills in farming and data gathering. You know what they say, you reap what you sow. So we say let your eco-warrior dreams grow!
No matter how big or small, your actions can inspire and mobilize people to help protect the environment. Take it a step further and be an Earth-saving intern! You don’t have to wait until you graduate from school to make a difference. You can do it now whether that be as an intern, a volunteer, or both. We’re rooting for you!
