Signs You Might Be in the Wrong Course

Oct 08, 2018

As a young adult, you are asked to choose the course that you think is right for you. But choosing a course and actually studying the course are totally different things altogether. Here’s the thing–you can pick the wrong major and might feel uncertainty towards the degree you thought you would enjoy. But how do you know for sure that you made the wrong choice? Here are the signs:

  1. You don’t want to attend the lectures

You find yourself skipping lectures or dragging yourself into attending one. When you attend lectures, you’re only physically but not mentally present. Thus, you learn essentially nothing. If you feel that almost every class you have is torture, then maybe it’s time to reassess your decision.

  1. Your grades are terrible

Although bad grades don’t necessarily mean that you’re pursuing the wrong degree, it’s still a major concern when assessing your chosen course. Your grade depends on many things like what kind of professor you have, the difficulty of your major, and the skills you have as a student. However, if you’re trying your best but still fail miserably in almost all of your subjects, maybe it would be best to think if the course you’re taking is really for you.

  1. You were pressured into it

If you’ve made a decision solely on the advice of your family or friends, then, you might have to rethink your options. Make no mistake about it, family and friends’ advice are usually given with good intentions but remember they’re not the one who has to spend years of studying the course they want you to pursue.

  1. You’re absolutely not happy

It’s normal to feel stressed out sometimes and to hate your course a bit when it’s being tough on you. But if you hate all your professors and have nothing good to say about your course, then that’s definitely a red flag. Being unsatisfied with your school life will affect how you live your life–you’ll notice being irritable and your stress levels will always be at an all time high. When this happens, it’s time to consider change.

If you can relate to all the things we’ve listed down, don’t worry. There’s still time to switch to another degree! Just make sure to do your research when choosing a course. It’s also important to talk to someone so that they can help you assess your new options. Make a pros and cons list and decide intelligently!
