School is often regarded as one’s second home, as you spend most of your youth learning and going to class. It is where you develop your skills, forge lifelong friendships, discover passions and interests, and experience a multitude of things for the very first time. It provides a haven for solitude and adventure. Because of all of this, it is important that institutions offer an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.

Philippine schools have some of the best campuses in the world. Even though the country doesn’t have the largest land area, there are still quite a lot of campuses that may overwhelm the unsuspecting freshman in terms of their size. Want to see if your school made it to the cut of being one of the largest in the archipelago? Here are the top ten biggest campuses in the Philippines:

University of the Philippines Los Banos

It comes as no surprise that this university, which houses research centers for agriculture, made it to this list. Elbi, as students would fondly call it, spans across a whopping 15, 000 hectares making it the biggest in the country.

Central Luzon State University

One of the most revered state schools in the country, CLSU sprawls around 658 hectares on land area alone. Located in the heart of Nueva Ecija, this university prides itself on having some of the best STEM programs not only in Luzon but the entire Philippines.

Silliman University

Right by the coast of Negros Oriental, lies one of the landmarks in Dumaguete – Silliman University. Silliman has around 527 hectares of land locked to its property with 33 used for its main campus while the rest being farm land donated by the school.

University of the Philippines Diliman

With its own jeepney system, wide open spaces and Acacia tree-lined academic oval, UP Diliman gets a sure spot on this list. The 493-hectare campus is home to around 22,000 students currently taking up some of the 376 academic programs offered by the university.

Central Philippine University

Another Visayan institution to make it on the list is CPU, a private research university in Jaro, Iloilo which covers around 240 hectares of land. Some of the notable landmarks to visit would be the university’s church which boasts its unique architectural style inspired by Malayan culture. The university is best known for their research facilities and its religious foundation which pretty much explains why CPU goes by its motto of “Knowledge and Faith”.

University of the Philippines Mindanao

Situated in Tugbok, Davao City, this UP campus has 204 hectares to its name. UP Mindanao is a popular choice for students who have chosen to pursue a career in agriculture and the sciences.

Mindanao State University

Also making it to the list is MSU in Cotabato. Students get to enjoy spending time around the 156-hectare campus. This campus specializes in STEM programs and courses in agriculture.

Ateneo de Manila University

The land of the Blue Eagles covers up to 83 hectares. The land is used for grade school, high school and university buildings, wide open spaces, gym, and other recreational and learning facilities for the students. This quiet and serene university along Katipunan Avenue is home to approximately 20,000 students.

Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan)

Another Jesuit school makes its way as one of the biggest in terms of campus size is Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro with 71 hectares. It is the first institution to be granted the university status in Mindanao. What’s more, CHEd has awarded three of its programs as Centers for Excellence, and seven programs as Centers of Development

De La Salle University Canlubang

On the tenth spot is De La Salle University in Canlubang, Laguna which has about 50 hectares for its students to frolic around and have fun.

Aside from providing ample space for studying, being in one of the biggest schools allows you to use your free time strolling around and discovering what nature has to offer. Do you want to learn more about other schools? Check out Edukasyon.ph and apply to a school that interests you!
