Justice Reigns from the South: The Blue Knights of Ateneo de Davao
Feb 19, 2020
Why do we study anyway?
Everyone has different reasons. You’ll find people who study so they could secure a job after college. Some people do it so they could find greatness in themselves and make their parents proud. Some want to create a positive impact, no matter what, on the world. All are valid and justified.
Whatever your reason is, where you decide to go to college is a big step towards the person you want to become, and Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) has everything you need to help you answer your ‘why’?
What’s the secret?
Not so much a secret as it is a product of years of development and experience. Ateneo de Davao has 71 years of taking in students and forming them into great thinkers and leaders in their field.
Today, it has adapted to the K-to-12 system with a structured curriculum that prepares its graduates for college and work life. Regardless of which career path you go for, you can’t go wrong with starting your road to greatness here.
The Training Grounds: A Well-Equipped Campus
A good education is enabled by a school’s facilities, and Ateneo de Davao’s grounds has buildings and facilities that will help you start the path you want to take in life. It’s got labs and research facilities, plus one killer library where you can spend your time slaying papers, projects, or just hanging out between classes.
The university makes sure its students are ahead when it comes to learning, constantly improving its buildings and tech. And now, there are newer facilities in the works: an aerospace engineering laboratory, upgraded computer, engineering, and science labs, a sports complex, and an olympic-sized swimming pool!
If you’re looking for the more physical kind of training, AdDU also has varsity teams for basketball, football, volleyball, track and field, swimming, and chess. They compete across different leagues in Davao.
The Blue Knights: Woke Testaments to Strength in Faith
An Ateneo education aims to keep its students grounded, immersed in the realities of Filipino life. Ateneo de Davao is no exception to this. While the students study theory, they’re also shown that knowledge in practice.
AdDU gives its students ways that they could be one with their communities. Through the University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council, students can help different communities—staying true to the university’s commitment of “engaging in intercultural, inter-religious, and inter-ideological dialogues especially in Mindanao.”
AdDU students empower indigenous communities in Mindanao by hosting dialogues and forums. In 2018, the university hosted a peace forum on Lumad engagement in Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).
So, if you want to get real and start making real change happen, look into this school, shoot your shot here, and get marching.
