What is the Physician Licensure Exam in the Philippines?

The Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) is the professional board exam for aspiring Physicians. PLE aims to assess a medical student’s skills and knowledge on the practice of medicine. The board exam is under the Republic Act No. 2382 also known as The Medical Act of 1959.

What is the coverage of the Physician Licensure Exam?

The Physician Licensure Exam is a four-part test. Here is a typical schedule of the four days of the medical board:

 

Day 8:00am – 10:00am 11:00am – 1:00pm 2:00pm – 4:00pm
First Day Biochemistry Anatomy and Histology Microbiology and Parasitology
Second Day Physiology Legal Medicine, Ethics, and Medical Jurisprudence Pathology
Third Day Pharmacology and Therapeutics Surgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and Rhinology Internal Medicine
Fourth Day Obstetrics and Gynecology Pediatrics and Nutrition Preventive Medicine and Public Health

What is the passing rate for the Physician Licensure Exam?

The 12 subjects in the Physician Licensure Exam are individually graded. Each subject in the test contributes 8.3% to your overall grade. You need to have a passing grade of 75% with no grade below 50% in any of the subject. The passing rate for the Physician Licensure Exam is determined using the Mean Passing Level (MPL) of the total number of examinees.

Who can take the Physician Licensure Exam?

According to The Medical Act of 1959, a board examinee must meet the following requirements:

  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or its equivalent
  • Certificate of Registration issued to Board of Medical Examiners
  • Citizen of the Philippines
  • For foreign citizens: documentary evidence confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs
  • Good moral character
  • No pending court cases or moral charges

What are the application requirements of the Physician Licensure Exam?

Here are the following documents you need to prepare for the Physician Licensure Exam:

  • Degree in Doctor of Medicine
  • NSO/PSA Birth Certificate
  • NSO/PSA Marriage Contract (for married female applicants)
  • Transcript of Records with scanned picture and Remarks “For Board Examination Purposes”
  • Complete payment of PHP 900 for the registration fee
  • Certificate of Post Graduate Internship

When is the Physician Licensure Exam in the Philippines?

The Physician Licensure Exam happens every March and September. According to the examination schedules on the PRC official website, here are the important dates you need to remember:

How to apply for the Physician Licensure Exam?

You can apply online through PRC’s Licensure Examination and Registration Information System (LERIS).

Here’s a step-by-step guide for the online application:

Step 1: Gather all your documents.

Step 2: Register and sign in to your LERIS account.

Step 3: Fill out all the required details.

Step 4: Upload your photo (follow the photo requirements set by PRC).

Step 5: Select the Physician Licensure Examination tab (board type: Medicine).

Step 4: Schedule an appointment date with PRC.

Step 5: Choose your preferred payment method and pay for the exam fee.

Step 6: Print the application form.

Step 7: Submit your requirements to the PRC office on the day of your scheduled appointment.

Where can I check the Physician Licensure Exam results?

You can check the Physician Licensure Exam results on the PRC official website. PRC posts the complete list of board passers and the top performing schools. You can expect the results within 15 days after the examination date. Go to the online verification part of the website and log in your details to get your results.
