Top Architecture Schools in the Philippines

Are you passionate about designing buildings and other structures? Then pursuing a degree in Architecture could be best for you.

To be an Architect, you need a school that can provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills that you need. But with the rise of different institutions in the country that offer Architecture programs, how do you choose which one is the right one for you?

If you are looking for a college that could best prepare you for a career in Architecture, here are some of the leading universities in the country based on their performances on the Architecture Licensure Examination (ALE) for the last 5 years (2014-2018):

University of Santo Tomas

Throughout the years, the University of Santo Tomas is one of the top performing schools in ALE. Established in 1930, the UST College of Architecture was awarded by the Commission on Higher Education as a Center of Excellence in 2000. The college offers a five-year program in Architecture wherein students, on their third year, will choose their specialization track under the following areas: Heritage Conservation, Environmental Management Planning, and Landscape Architecture. Its list of alumni includes several National Artists of the Philippines for Architecture like Francisco Mañosa who is known for designing the Coconut Palace.

University of San Carlos

University of San Carlos is a private higher education institution in Visayas and it provides both baccalaureate and graduate programs in Architecture. Aside from its number Center of Excellence and Development from CHED, the university’s recent feats include ranking first in the June 2014 ALE with a rate of 90.%.

Mapua Institute of Technology

Aside from its Engineering courses, Mapua Institute of Technology is also prominent for its Architecture programs. Mapua’s School of Architecture, Industrial Design, and Built Environment offers degrees in BS Architecture, BS Industrial Design and the BS Interior Design.

The school also has its long list of notable graduates who made their names in various industries including renowned commercial architect like William Coscolluela and National Artist for Architecture Pablo Antonio. Mapua ranked second in the June 2018 ALE garnering an 81.48% passing rate.

Technological University of the Philippines

TUP’s College of Architecture and Fine Arts houses four undergraduate programs namely Graphics Technology, Product Design and Development Technology, Fine Arts, and Architecture. An ISO 9001:2015 certified university, TUP continues its excellence in the technological field. In the June 2016 ALE, TUP is the only university to be included in the list of the Top Performing schools. TUP garnered a rating of 86.79% (the Professional Regulation Commission requires “with more than 50 examinees and with at least 80% passing percentage”).

University of the Philippines-Diliman

Despite not being listed in PRC’s list of best performing schools in ALE, UP Diliman still has made remarkable feats in the licensure board consistently producing board topnotchers. In the January 2018 ALE, UP set a 100% passing rate (30 passers out of 30 examinees); as well as  97.87% in the June 2018 board (46 passers out of 47 examinees). At present, the UP College of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Architecture and Landscape Architecture.
