Deakin University was established in 1974 and was named after the second Prime Minister of Australia , Alfred Deakin. It was also the first to be established in regional Victoria and one of the first universities in the country to specialise in distance education. Holmesglen Institute was established in 1982 and is one of the largest providers of vocational and higher education in Victoria. It has over 50 000 students accross its four campuses at Moorabbin, City, Chadstone, and Waverley. University of New England (UNE) , founded in 1938, is a public university in Australia . It was initially a College of University of the Sydney being known as New England University College. It became independent in 1954 and became a pioneer in teaching external students by correspondence, making it Australia's most experienced provider of distance education, now called as online education. UNE offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs through its three faculties: Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education; Faculty of Medicine and Health; and Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business, and Law. UNE has a teaching history that spans back to the 1920's which has earned them a reputation of being one of Australia's top universities. Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) is a public higher educational institution in Sagay City, Negros Occidental . NONESCOST started as the Old Sagay Barangay High School (OSBHS) in 1970. Eight years later, the school became a municipal high school and, at the same time, was recognized as an extension campus of the Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF); after five years, the municipal high school was renamed to ISCOF – Sagay Branch . In 1998, the campus became the Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology through the Republic Act 8448 . NONESCOST currently offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Agriculture, Fisheries, Natural Science, Information Technology, Teacher Education, Business and Management, Criminology, Nursing, and Humanities . Several of these courses are accredited by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, (AACCUP) Inc. Aside from these programs, the college also provides certificate courses , particularly in Midwifery and Teaching. Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology is the only science and technology state college in the province of Negros Occidental and the only state college in Northern Negros.
