What does Baliuag University (BU) stand for?

Baliuag University (BU) was established in 1925 as the Baliuag Institute. From a small high school with only 75 students, it developed and was renamed to Baliuag Junior College in 1947. The institution was elevated into its present university status in 2001 and was granted with full autonomy status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

At present, BU offers a complete set of programs starting from elementary, junior, and senior high school. It has seven colleges in its undergraduate program and 12 in postgraduate courses. BU also conducts training in language proficiency, National Service Training Program (NSTP), as well as review classes in Nursing Board Examination and Licensure Examination for Teachers.

BU became a self-regulated institution with most of its course offerings granted with Level III Course Accreditations. The Autonomous status not only gives BU the freedom to offer new academic programs without the need for the approval of CHED but also, it signifies CHED’s confidence in the institution’s capability in sustaining high-quality educational programs.

Baliuag University facts:

  • The first university to receive full autonomy status in Region 3.
