What does Bicol University - Main stand for?
Bicol University (BU) was founded in 1969 by virtue of the Republic Act 5521 with the mandate of providing professional training and advanced instructions in literature, philosophy, science, and the arts, as well as scientific and technological researches for the students in the Bicol region. Under the Republic Act 5521, six educational institutions were integrated and become the school’s current colleges.
BU has 10 colleges and 2 institutes that offer undergraduate courses in Social Sciences, Philosophy, Business, Education, Communication, Nursing, Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Agriculture, and Medicine. It also has Masters and Doctorate Degree programs for individuals who seek education or professional advancement. BU is also engaged in research and development projects that focus on Food Security & Poverty Reduction, Climate Change & Natural Resources Management, Global Competitiveness of Business and Industry, Social Development Promotion, and Institutional & Policy Research.
Bicol University’s commitment to providing excellent learning experiences to its students is reflected in the awards it received from the different accrediting organizations. Its programs in Teaching, Fisheries Education, and Nursing, were recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) as Centers of Excellence and Development.

- BU has seven campuses spread across the Bicol region. Its main campus is in the boundary of Daraga and Legazpi City in Albay, while the other campuses are located in EM Barrio in Legazpi, Daraga, Tabaco, Guinobatan, Polangui, and Gubat.
