Capitol University (CU) was established in 1971 as a private coeducational institution accredited by the Department of Education (DepEd) for its Basic Education program and by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) for its tertiary offerings. It was initially named Cagayan Capitol College and provided a complete secondary course and degrees in Liberal Arts, Commerce, Education, and Secretarial. The school was renamed as Capitol University in 2003.
CU includes undergraduate programs in Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Computer Studies, Business administration, Criminology, Education, Maritime Education, and Nursing. They also have a basic education program at their CU St. Francis Learning Center in Gusa, Cagayan De Oro City. The university’s graduate programs include specializations in Guidance & Counselling, Business Management, Public Service Management, Education and Filipino. They also offer a Doctor of Philosophy and a Doctor of Management degree under its Postgraduate program.
Three of its colleges have been declared by CHEd as Centers of Development: the College of Criminology, the College of Computer Studies and the College of Civil Engineering. The College of Education was also recognized as a Center of Excellence. The university has produced many top students in licensure exams for nursing and teaching.
