Catanduanes State University (CSU) is a public university in
Catanduanes established in 1971. The institution was conceived through the
Republic Act No. 6341 authored by then Congressman Jose M. Alberto. The said legislation converted the Virac National Agricultural and Trade School into the Catanduanes State Colleges (CSC). CSC was then elevated into its university status under the
Republic Act No. 10229 signed by former president Benigno Aquino III. At present, the CSU is composed of two educational bodies, one is in Virac and one is in
Panganiban.
CSU offers various academic programs from associate to post-graduate degrees. The main campus is composed of eight colleges that provide academic instruction in
Engineering, Education, Industrial Technology, Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences, Business, and
Information and Communications Technology. The institution is the home for topnotchers in the field of
Engineering, Nursing, and
Education. It is also recognized as the
top performing school in
Midwifery in the Philippines, and the
top performing school in
Nursing school in the
Bicol Region.
