What does Cebu Technological University - Main stand for?

Cebu Technological University (CTU) is a Level IV and ISO-Certified state university with 9 campuses and 11 extensions around the island of Cebu. It is one of the youngest universities in the Philippines--only having been given the status in 2009.

Cebu Technological University started as the Cebu Trade School in 1911 and was one of the earliest trade vocational schools in the country. In 1925, the secondary school opened, and by 1940, Cebu Trade School changed its name to Cebu School of Arts and Trades (CSAT).

In the 1940s up until the 1960s, the school saw massive expansion both in their reach of campuses and course offerings. Between 1945 and 1949, CSAT expanded to smaller cities, such as Argao, Tuburan, Moalboal, Sudlon, Daanbantayan, Danao, San Francisco, and Carmen. These 8 became the extensions of the Cebu City-based school.

In 1954, CSAT established its first college course: BS in Industrial Education. From there, they started offering a postgraduate degree in Education (M. Ed.) and Vocational Education (MAVED) in 1969. By 1982, they had already offered BS Industrial Technology (BSIT) and a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

Since then, Cebu Technological University has seen nothing but growth. Today, it is home to 40,000 students, studying varied courses across 5 colleges: College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Technology, College of Information and Communication Technology, and College of Arts and Sciences with dozens of courses to choose. The school also provides graduate studies in other specialties and “Evening Opportunity Trade Classes” which benefit professionals who work during the day and have time to study at night.

True to its commitment of delivering excellent education for its students, CTU is also engaged in research initiatives with partnerships around the world such as The Netherlands, Japan, Australia, South Korea, USA, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.
