Eligibility:
  • Japanese language proficiency is essential for undergraduate admission.
  • Foreign citizens must satisfy requirements (applicants are exempted from the National Center Test for University Admissions):
    • Individuals who have resident classification compatible with entering a university as prescribed by Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act (excluding individuals with permanent residency in Japan)
    • Individuals who fall under one of the categories below:
      • Individuals who have completed a 12-year course of study overseas, expected to be completed by March 2014, or who achieved the equivalent and have been designated as such by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. (Note) "achieved the equivalent and have been designated as such by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology" is as described below.
        • Individuals who have passed examinations given in the relevant countries that certify that said individual possesses academic skills equivalent to a 12-year curriculum in the education system (including those equivalent to national examination), and who will have reached eighteen years of age by March 2014.
        • Individuals who have passed examinations given in the relevant countries that certify that said individual possesses academic skills equivalent to a 12-year curriculum in the education system (including those equivalent to national examination), who have completed preparatory curriculum to enter university in Japan as designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and who will have reached eighteen years of age by March 2014.
      • Individuals who possess an international Organization, a foundation awarded by the Secretariat of the International Baccalaureate Foundation based on Swiss Civil law and will have reached eighteen years of age by March 2014.
      • Individuals who possess an Arbitur awarded by Federal Republic of Germany and will have reached eighteen years of age by March 2014.
      • Individuals who possess a Baccalaureate awarded by French Republic and will have reached eighteen years of age by March 2014.
      • Individuals who have been recognized as having scholastic ability equivalent to a senior high school graduate or higher during the individual entrance admissions screening conducted by Chiba University and who will have reached eighteen years of age by March 2014.
  • Individuals who have taken the 2013 Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (offered in June or November / Applicants to the Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Law and Economics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering must take the June exam) offered by the Japan Student Services Organization, for the subjects required by the faculty or the area of studies which applicants wish to enter (Fulfilling the criteria score noted in the Examination subject for Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students). *See Table of "Subjects on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students"
  • Individuals fulfilling the requirements under the relevant faculty and department.

Chiba University is a national university in Chiba, Japan. It was founded in 1949 merging several education institutions in Chiba prefecture such as Chiba Normal School and Chiba Medical College. The university has four campuses: Nishi-Chiba, Inohana, Matsudo, and Kashiwano-ha.

Chiba University offers a wide range of programs through its faculties and graduate schools. The areas available include liberal arts and sciences, letters, law, politics, economics, education, engineering, horticulture, pharmacy, medicine, and nursing.

Aside from its programs, the university also boasts of its 960,000m² land area that provides a conducive learning environment for the students. Chiba University has three libraries that hold 1.4 million volumes of books as well as 25,000 periodicals and non-printed materials. The library also has a website that contains a number of bibliographic databases and online journals.
