Meet the literacy requirement
This course will develop your English language proficiency in order for you to meet Curtin's literacy requirement. You will undertake four units in the areas of Academic Writing, English Communication, Tertiary Study Skills and English for Specific Purposes.
The Academic Writing unit will develop your research skills which will enable you to write research essays with a clear thesis and arguments supported by appropriate research and references. English Communication will enhance your listening and note-taking skills and you will learn to make successful, researched oral presentations. Tertiary Study Skills will promote skills in academic reading. You will be introduced to critical thinking skills and be given the opportunity to apply these concepts by evaluating arguments presented in a range of reading texts. English for Specific Purposes will introduce you to research skills and provide you with a clearer understanding of literature review and project work, as well as the requirements for tertiary study.
