Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) is a state-owned, province-wide university system in Leyte founded in 1907. The school was originally the Leyte Provincial School that underwent several changes in its name until it was successfully elevated into a university in 2004 under the
Republic Act No. 9311. The EVSU is considered as the
oldest state university in the city of
Tacloban, Leyte and has six campuses strategically located in the different municipalities of the province. The university’s
Burauen site is known for its
Agricultural courses while the
Carigara campus for
Fisheries. Other campuses include the
Dulag,
Ormoc, and
Tanauan campus.
The EVSU is composed of six colleges and a graduate school. These academic units provide undergraduate to post-graduate degree programs in various fields such as
Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Business and Entrepreneurship, Education, Engineering, and
Technology. Aside from these academic programs, EVSU also takes part on various community extension activities. Its
Community Continuing Education Program provides short-term programs intended for
Livelihood Skills Development (LSD) and
Community Lecture-Demonstration on Mature Technology of the University.
