The service industry is an area of major development worldwide, especially with globalization opening the doors to the employment of services such as Business Process Outsourcing, Education and Business Tourism. However, the lack of proficiency in the English language has slowed down its progress. The Philippines, a country that should eventually lead the developing countries in service industries owing to its large English speaking population, is still hardly able to avail of this advantage due to inadequate English proficiency skills. This inadequacy also prevents its graduates from seeking employment AND receiving better compensation overseas-in countries where skilled but ENGLISH-speaking workers are in such high demand.
