The Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Educational Technology and Social Sciences aims to produce graduates who can competently teach Social Sciences in the secondary schools. The curriculum provides prospective teachers with a solid background of human relationships, communities and nations, origins and destinies, people and government, as well as language and communication. In addition, the students learn the theory, production, and applications of instructional technologies in education focusing on the development of instructional media that are used in teaching Social Science subjects. The program also seeks to address issues on learning and teaching and current trends in secondary Social Science education. Its special attribute is a wide variety of courses in professional education and supervised practice teaching. Stimulating and varied practical field experiences are integral parts of the training to provide students a well-balanced program that hones both practical and theoretical skills. LCCM envisions that the graduates of this program would manifest not only a high level of competence in the field of pedagogy, multimedia instructional technology, science and information technology, and communicative and interpersonal skills, but also a deep love for learners and life-long learning.
Graduates of BSE major in Educational Technology and Social Sciences are in demand in the secondary education both in public and private schools. With the knowledge of content in secondary Social Science education and skill in educational technology, aside from a Faculty position, graduates may pursue other careers within or outside of the school setting such as computer-based instruction specialists, instructional designers, learning management system managers, textbook authors, researchers, Social Science curriculum consultant etc.
