Mapúa University is a Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asia Top 500-ranked university (2019 and 2020). It is known as the Philippines' premier engineering and technological school founded in 1925 by Don Tomas Mapúa, the first registered Filipino architect.
The University is the first school in Southeast Asia to receive an ABET recognition for its engineering programs. To date, it holds the most number of ABET-accredited programs for a single campus in the country with 11 engineering and three (3) computing programs (www.abet.org). ABET accreditation signifies that Mapúa’s engineering and computing programs meet the quality standards to produce graduates prepared to enter the global workforce, making it easier for them to get careers in multinational companies and seek a license in the United States.
Eight (8) of Mapúa’s engineering programs are also accredited by the Philippine Technological Council - Accreditation and Certification Board for Engineering and Technology (PTC-ACBET). It is the umbrella organization of the thirteen (13) professional engineering organizations in the country and a provisional member of the Washington Accord, which promotes outcomes-based standards in engineering education worldwide. Graduates of the program may receive credit in seeking registration or licensure in the jurisdiction of another signatory member. Meanwhile, three of the University’s computing programs are also accredited by the PCS (Philippine Computer Society) Information and Computing Accreditation Board (PICAB). It is a provisional signatory member of the Seoul Accord, which is the counterpart of the Washington Accord in the field of Information Technology.
The Philippines' Commission on Higher Education (CHED) also awarded several of its engineering programs the Center of Excellence (COE) status and tagged Mapúa as a COE for I.T. education. It houses the most number of engineering programs in the country that are CHED COEs.
Mapúa also offers international programs to ensure its students’ global professional readiness and competitiveness. With over 100 linkages abroad composed of companies and universities, students get a chance to be immersed in their world of practice even while in their undergraduate through the University’s student exchange, English camp, joint programs, international summer camp, international plant visits, international on-the-job trainings, and research internship programs.
Mapúa also fosters advanced student and professional learning using Cardinal EDGE, its learning management system powered by Blackboard. In any adversity, the University ensures continuous learning among its students with its already established digital learning culture and online alternatives to in-campus teaching.
A University for the people and planet, Mapúa is also noted for its initiatives and active advocacies supporting sustainable environments and clean engineering programs. It placed 601+ out of 766 participating institutions worldwide in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2020 (www.timeshighereducation.com). It was also ranked in its five (5) Sustainable Development Goals out of 17: SDG 6–Clean Water and Sanitation (Rank 101-200); SDG 7–Affordable and Clean Energy (Rank 201-300); SDG 8–Decent Work and Economic Growth (Rank 401+); SDG 12–Responsible Consumption and Production (Rank 301+); and lastly, for the second time in a row, SDG 17–Partnership for the Goals (Rank 601+).
With more than 10,500 students, Mapúa has been producing professionals in diverse fields, namely, engineering and sciences, architecture and design, information technology, media studies, business and management, and social sciences and education. It offers 39 undergraduate programs, 37 master's degree programs, 17 joint programs, 7 double-degree programs, and 6 doctorate programs. Mapúa has produced a total of 374 board exam topnotchers since year 2000.
