The
Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) was established in 1978, by then President Ferdinand Marcos through
Presidential Decree 1279. This decree led to the merger of what was formerly known as the Mariano Marcos Memorial College of Science and Technology, the North Luzon State College, the Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades, and the Ilocos Norte Agricultural College. From the locations of these former institutions, the six present campuses of MMSU emerged. These campuses have their own flagship programs and are located in the towns of
Dingras and
Currimao, and the other two
campuses are located in the city of
Laoag.
MMSU offers a variety of undergraduate programs through its 10 colleges: the
College of Agriculture,
Food and Sustainable Development,
College of Aquatic Science and Applied Technology,
College of Arts and Sciences,
College of Business,
Economics,
and Accountancy,
College of Engineering,
College of Health Science,
College of Industrial Technology,
College of Teacher Education,
College of Law, and the
College of Medicine. MMSU also houses a
graduate school that offers both graduate and postgraduate degrees in fields of
philosophy, public administration, and
education, among others.
