Northern Samar Colleges (NSC) s a private, non-sectarian school in the municipality of
Catarman. It was established in 1949 to meet the educational demands of a town that had only two schools at the time—a private Roman Catholic high school, and an inaccessible agricultural school located across the river. Originally the
Northern Samar Colleges, Inc., the school offered high school and tertiary courses in education. Its education courses phased out after a while, and it became the
Northern Samar Academy (NSA) with available vocational courses in addition to its high school program. In 2000, NSA celebrated its 50th year by opening its preschool and grade school departments and having its college programs back again.
Today, NSC provides bachelor's degree courses in
Elementary and Secondary Education, Office Administration, Hospitality Management, and
Information Technology. Also available are an
Associate in Computer Technology program and a
Professional Teacher Certificate Program. The school's basic education department also includes a Senior High School (SHS) unit which offers selected strands from the
Academic and the
Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) tracks.
