Considered as the
only state college in the province of Occidental Mindoro, the
Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) is a multi-campus higher educational institution located in the municipality of San Jose. The institution is composed of five (5) external campuses located at the municipalities of
Labangan, Murtha, Sablayan, Mamburao, and
Lubang.
In its early days, the OMSC started out as a Barrio High School in 1966. This community high school was eventually elevated into a municipal high school, then into a national high school as the number of enrollees grew. The high school was then again converted into a national college known as the Occidental Mindoro National College by the virtue of
BP Blg. 537 in 1983. Almost a decade after its conversion into a national college, the institution started absorbing other educational institution in the province in order to promote unified and progressive educational reforms and objectives. And it was only in 2009 that the name of the school was changed into its present name by the passing of
RA 9747.
