Palompon Institute of Technology is a state college in Leyte, established in 1961. It started operating in 1964 as Palompon School of Art and Trades (PSAT) through the Republic Act No. 3394 to provide higher vocational and technical learning and training and other professional courses such as engineering, maritime studies, business, and medicine, to boost the technological skills and awareness of the youth in the northwestern Leyte area. PIT has another campus,
Tambango, which caters the BS Fisheries program.
Palompon Institute of Technology offers a variety of courses which include Information Technology, Industrial Engineering, Marine Transportation, Shipping Management and Accountancy, Marine Engineering, Radio Communications Technology, Industrial Technology, and Education.
The school also has a laboratory high school, senior high school, up to graduate school. As well as an extensive maritime education program (six-month basic seaman training course) for out-of-school-youths and adults.
