Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation is an undergraduate training program designed to give students the skills and knowledge needed to be a marine officer. It exposes students to theories and practices in seamanship, ship business, navigation, meteorology, and marine laws.

Graduates of this program need to have work experience aboard a ship before taking any licensure examination related to marine transportation. How long the work experience is depends on the requirements set by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on the specific examination.

Licensure Examinations for BS in Marine Transportation:

• Officer-in-Charge of a Navigational Watch Licensure Examination
  
  - required for working as a Second Mate/ Second Officer, an OIC of a Navigational Watch, or as the Third Mate
   
• Chief Mate Licensure Examination
  
  - required for work as a First Mate/First Officer
   
• Master Mariner Licensure Examination
  
  - required for working as a Master Mariner, Chief Officer or a Designated Person Ashore (DPA)
