Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) is a premier state-run maritime institution in the country. Its original name was Escuela Nautica de Manila, situated in Intramuros, Manila. It was established under the Spanish Royal Decree on January 1, 1820 and was inaugurated on April 5 of the same year. It is the first marine education institution set up in the country and one of the oldest the region. It is currently located in the 60-hectare land of a former American Radar Base in San Narciso, Zambales.

PMMA provides academic and professional training for merchant marine officers for marine-related industries. It offers two major baccalaureate programs: the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. These residency courses offer 3 years of academic studies and 1-year apprenticeship training on board a commercial vessel in international waters. The courses are continuously renewed and amended to adapt to existing needs of the maritime industry. The academy also offers graduate programs in Ship Management and Maritime Education & Training.
