What does Philippine Military Academy stand for?

Philippine Military Accademy

Philippine Military Academy (PMA) is located at the Fort Gregorio del Pilar on Loakan Road, Baguio. It stands as an institution to build the future officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines whose primary purpose is to serve and protect the country. PMA has gone a long way starting from its foundation on October 25 1898, with the establishment of the Academia Militar at Malolos City, following the decree issued by the first president of the country, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. It was then relocated to Baguio City in 1908 while the Philippines was under the American rule. Dedicated to instruct and train their cadets with the fundamental military skills, it aims to meet the international standards for military academy.

PMA offers academic programs and military programs for both boys and girls. The academic programs include the departments of Managerial Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities, Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, and Information and Computing Sciences while it offers Leadership Development, Physical Education, Ground Warfare, Air Warfare, and Naval Warfare for the Military Program. Students will learn with the benefit of not having to pay any fee for their education.

Having the values of Courage, Integrity, and Loyalty, PMA continues to fulfill its primary purpose towards the security and betterment of the society.

Philippine Military Accademy Facts:

  • The Class of 1931 were the first to graduate under the Three-year Program.
  • The tradition of naming PMA classes started only in 1967, with Dimasupil (roughly translated to "cannot be defeated") as the first batch name
  • The first female PMA graduates belonged to the Class of 1997. They were admitted to the PMA in 1993. This is in accordance with Republic Act 7192, or the "Women in Development and Nation Building Act.”
