Founded in 1901, the Philippine Normal University (PNU) is a state university located in Manila. PNU was initially established as the Philippine Normal School (PNS) and was converted to the Philippine Normal College (PNC) in 1949, which allowed the institution to grant undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. In 1991, the Philippine Normal College was converted into the Philippine Normal University and was elevated into a full-fledged university by 1992.
As an institution, PNU envisions itself to become an internationally recognized and nationally responsive teacher education university and is dedicated to nurturing innovative teachers and education leaders. The university currently offers various diploma, undergraduate, and graduate courses in the fields of Information and Knowledge Management, Education, Arts and Languages, and Behavioral and Social Sciences.
By virtue of Republic Act No. 9647, PNU was designated as the National Center for Teacher Education on June 30, 2009 for its leadership in teacher education.
