Saint Joseph College (SJC) is a private, Catholic school in
Maasin, Southern Leyte. It started in 1928 as Insituto de San Jose, offering programs for elementary and high school students. n 1940 it offered the Junior Normal College Course for those students who wanted to have an accessible school for higher education. After the Second World War, the Benedictine Sisters became the administrators. In 1947, the Junior Normal Collge Course became government recognized; thus, the institution was renamed to Saint Joseph Junior College. Within two years, after a couple of courses obtained government recognition, the school was renamed Saint Joseph College.
Currently, SJC provides programs from kindergarten to the graduate school level. It offers
CHED-recognized graduate and undergraduate courses in
Teacher Education, Business Management, Accountancy, Hospitality Management, Information Technology, Engineering, and
Liberal Arts. The Senior High School department offers the
Academic and the
Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) tracks. Through the
Saint Joseph College-Vocational Training Center, interested students can also avail of
technical-vocational and short courses, like Automotive Technology, Bartending, and Health Care Services. Most of these can be completed in less than a year.
