What does Saint Pedro Poveda College stand for?

Saint Pedro Poveda College (SPPC) is a private, Catholic educational institution exclusively for girls. The school is located in Quezon City and is managed by the Teresian Association of Lay Missionaries. Commonly called as Poveda, the institution’s Ortigas campus is currently the only school in the Philippines that is run by the religious organization.

Established in 1960, the school was first called as Institución Teresiana. During that time, it was only offering Kindergarten and Primary programs. By 1969, the said institution started providing preschool, elementary and high school education.
In 1974, the school’s name was changed into Poveda Learning Center as a tribute to St. Pedro Poveda, the founder of the Teresian Association. The saint’s birth centennial was also celebrated that same year.
Poveda is known for its Personalized Education Program (PEP) which is being implemented since its establishment. The program emphasizes on learning that is suited to a person’s certain skills and abilities. Aside from having a personalized educational approach, the school also offers lessons in Spanish
When the school expanded and started offering tertiary programs, its name officially became Saint Pedro Poveda College. The school currently offers undergraduate programs in Business Administration and Education.
The educational institution is also a member of the Women's National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) in the country and has a team called the Poveda Phoenix. Its cheerdancing team has also won titles on several competitions in the Philippines. The Golden Phoenix, the school’s official mascot was created in 2009 in celebration of Poveda’s 50th anniversary.  The institution has already produced graduates who have been successful in the world of sports, politics, fashion and media.
Inspired by St. Pedro Poveda’s teachings, the school encourages the Povedans to value simplicity, faith and love, continuing to teach its students to become individuals who have a heart for others.
