Samar State University (SSU) is a public educational institution established in 1912 as the Samar Trade School, which is originally the laboratory shop of the Samar Provincial High School. At present, the university has four campuses in the province---Catbalogan City (main campus),
Mercedes,
Basey, and
Paranas.
SSU offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. Courses related to
Education, Industrial Technology, Arts and Sciences,
Engineering, and
Health Sciences are available to students who intend to pursue their education in the university. The university also has an
online learning program which gives students the access to flexible learning process through the use of internet.
Aside from providing advanced instruction in various disciplines, the school is also active in conducting
research and community engagement projects in Samar and its nearby areas through its three research centers----Center for Engineering Sciences, Technology and Innovations (CESTI), Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Research and Development
(CFARRD
), and Research Center for Culture and Social Issues (RCCSI).
