Sorsogon State University (formerly Sorsogon State College) is a multi-campus state university founded in 1907 as the Sorsogon Provincial Trade School. Eventually, the campus was converted into a state college by integrating the three biggest technical-vocational schools in the province through the enactment of
Republic Act 7666. Such integration led to the advancement of the institution's academic and administrative programs which gave the university the recognition as one of the top performing HEI in the Bicol region.
And just recently, the former state college was again converted into a state university by the virtue of
Republic Act 11088 which paved the way for the opening of the
very first homegrown state university in the province.
At present, campuses are located at the municipalities of
Bulan,
Magallanes, and
Castilla. All of these campuses have their own flagship programs and are continuously working for the improvement of their academic and technical-vocational training programs.
