The Temple University (TU) is a large, public, research university that originally started in 1884. Its history began when Russell Conwell, a well-known Philadelphia minister, conducted night tutor classes to a group of young working men who can't afford to go to school by day. Since then, it has been the mission of Conwell to help these working people who have a strong desire to learn and make something out of themselves.

The university however started its formal school operation in 1888 when it got its charter of incorporation. But before that, Conwell had recruited volunteer faculties who helped him in managing the growing night classes that he started.

From a night tutor classes, the institution surely has gone a long way. The Temple University now is composed of eight (8) campuses which span from the urban to suburban areas of Philadelphia, to Japan, and to Rome. The main campus in Pennsylvania houses 17 schools/colleges that provides hundreds of degree programs in the fields of Business, Arts, Medicine, Engineering, Law, Education, Liberal Arts, Communication, Theatre, and Science and Technology
