Course Description

Build your language skills by studying Chinese, Indonesia, Japanese or Korean for professionals. In addition, you'll study topics including the environment, inequality, corruption, development, education, religion and human rights. You'll examine state cultural policies, state media, social media and mass and 'high' cultures to develop a critical understanding of the underlying ideologies and values within Asian societies. You'll also learn about tensions between the ways in which notions of 'tradition' and 'modernity' intersect, and be able to apply Western critical theories to Asian contexts. During this course, you will apply your learning to your professional and personal engagements with the region.
