This course includes study at TasTAFE, or an equivalent institution, and at the University of Tasmania. Students who complete the Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management from TasTAFE, or an equivalent qualification, articulate into the Bachelor of Business Administration (Hospitality Management) which is offered by the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) at the University of Tasmania. During their 12 months at TSBE students complete the final 10 units required for the degree.

PLEASE NOTE: The course commences in November each year and students complete 2 units in Spring School (extended) which runs from November through to February, and then 4 units in each of Semesters 1 and 2. Students will need to commence in spring school in order to complete the course within 12 months due to the prerequisites required for the Semester 1 and 2 units.

IMPORTANT: The BBA(Hospitality Management) is not available to International students on the Launceston campus due to a large proportion of the course being taught via distance only.

The course is designed to produce graduates with a sound knowledge of the fundamental principles and concepts of management, a familiarity with significant literature in the field and the ability to review, consolidate, extend and apply the knowledge and techniques to the hospitality management sector. It seeks to produce graduates with knowledge, skills and with an understanding of best practice in hospitality management, who recognise the value of research, critical thinking and effective communication. Graduates develop professional skills in such areas as interpersonal communication, services management, team work, report writing and problem-solving techniques. The course provides holders of a Tasmanian TAFE Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or equivalent qualification with the opportunity to gain a professional university degree in hospitality management.

The Course Learning Outcomes are:

  • Evaluate relevant ethical and legal considerations in an impartial way for specialised business management;
  • Obtain, analyse and interpret data relevant to making evidence-based decisions in business management tasks in complex contexts;
