What does Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation stand for?

Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) is a private Catholic educational institution, established in 1958 by Dr. Martin Posadas located in San Carlos, Pangasinan. The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs related to the fields of Health, Sciences, and Arts. It also has primary and secondary education programs under its belt. Other VMUF courses include certificate programs and technical-vocational courses.       

Its Pangasinan campus occupies a 19-hectare lot in Taloy district, San Carlos City. VMUF currently houses 14 buildings and a world-class sports complex used for the 1995 Palarong Pambansa (National Games). Adjacent to the campus is the Virgen Milagrosa Medical Center inaugurated in 1974. The university’s name Virgen Milagrosa refers to the Our Lady of Miraculous Medal, also featured in the school’s official seal. In 2008, VMUF celebrated its 50th foundation anniversary. 

The Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation and its programs are recognized by organizations based in the Philippines and abroad. This co-educational institution’s Nursing, Biology, and Public Health (masters) programs currently have a Level III Re-accreditation from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). Its Medical Degrees are also recognized by the Philippines’ Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the Sri Lankan Medical Council. The school has also tied up with the organization Global Education Centre to establish its Sri Lankan Branch in Colombo.

Since its establishment, this university has been dedicated to developing competent health providers that are responsive to the needs of the community. VMUF takes pride in providing globally-recognized medical education. It has produced passers of the country’s board and licensure examinations for health professionals. 

In addition to its international partnerships, the school has a diverse student community. It has been accommodating learners from countries such as Nepal and Sri Lanka who are interested to study quality medical programs offered by the university.

  • The Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation is the first institution to have programs with Level III PACUCOA re-accredited status in Region I. 
  • In 2004, the school was also awarded by the said organization for being one of the Top 10 institutions with the most number of accredited programs. 
  • VMUF has a veterinary hospital named The Virgen Milagrosa Veterinary Hospital. The hospital is certified by the Philippine Animal Hospital Association (PAHA).
