West Visayas State University (WVSU) is a public university established in 1902 as the Iloilo Normal School. It was as an independent training institution for teachers. Iloilo Normal School changed its name to West Visayas State College by virtue of R.A.4189 in 1965 which was later on elevated into its present university status in 1986. It has eight colleges in its main campus and has external campuses in
Pototan,
Lambunao,
Janiuay, and
Calinog.
WVSU offers
undergraduate programs under its eight colleges: the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business & Management, the College of Communication, the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the College of Information and Communications Technology, and the College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts and Recreation (PESCAR). WVSU also offers
postgraduate programs.
