What does Carnegie Mellon University stand for?

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private research university in the United States. It was founded by the Scottish American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1900 as Carnegie Technical Schools. 

CMU offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs through the College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, H. John Heinz III College of Information System and Public Policy, Mellon College of Science, School of Computer Science, and Tepper School of Business. 

CMU is recognized as one of the top universities worldwide. It is ranked 46th in the QS World University Rankings and 24th in the THE World University Rankings

  • 19 Nobel laureates, 14 members of NAS, 50 members of NAE, 114 Emmy Award Recipients, 7 Academy Award Recipients, and 12 Turing Award Recipients who graduated from CMU. 
  • Has thirteen active fraternities: Alpha Epsilon Pi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Tau Omega (colony), Alpha Sigma Phi, Delta Tau Delta, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Phi Epsilon, Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.
