South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a public research university in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. The university is known for its programs in science and technology, economics, engineering, law, humanities, and management. SCUT was founded in 1952 as the South China Institute of Technology, merging the engineering divisions of several schools in the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi.
Years after the university's establishment, SCUT now offers a wide range of programs in arts, design, humanities, law, business management, and STEM. SCUT is a member of the Project 985 of the Chinese Ministry of Education, aimed at producing world-class universities in the future. The university ranks 65th on Times Higher Education's (THE) Asia University Rankings for 2019.
