Southeast University (SEU) is a public education institution in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. The university was founded in CE 258 as the Imperial Nanjing School, making it one of the oldest schools in China. SEU is a member of the Project 211 and Program 985 of the country's Ministry of Education. These projects are part of the government's goal of producing world-class universities.
At present, the university is known for its programs in computer science, engineering, materials science, and mathematics. SEU ranks 73rd in Times Higher Education's Asia University Rankings. There are currently more than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students studying at Southeast University; 5% of this population are international students.
The university has a land area of 970 acres. Its university library is one of the oldest university libraries in China. It has a total floor area of 66,900 square meters that can cater to 4,914 seats. The library has a collection of 4,365,100 volumes of books, 4,134 Chinese and foreign language current periodicals, 131 Chinese and foreign language databases, including 2 million e-books, 63,600 e-periodicals, 9 million e-dissertations and 121,500 hours of audio and video resources.
