Course Description

This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to assist in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursing.  You will also learn about anatomy and physiology, infection control, nursing care of the client, legal and ethical parameters of nursing practice and promote positive health. You will also develop an understanding of health issues of Indigenous Australians and contribute to the nutritional and mental health care of the client.

You will complete supervised clinical placement in hospitals, nursing homes and healthcare agencies. Upon completion of this course you will have the skills required to become a qualified Enrolled Nurse.

In Australia, nursing qualifications are accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). ANMAC is accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) for assuring the Australian community that graduates of accredited programs can practice and care for people in a safe and competent manner.

This qualification has 20 core units and 5 elective units. Please note that you must complete all of the core units listed below, however the elective units you study may differ between TAFE colleges. At orientation you will be provided with course information by your college which identifies the elective units you will be enrolled into.

The core units are as follows:

  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
  • CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice


  • An IELTS score (academic) of 7.0 with no band score less than 7.0 or equivalent is required.

  • Year 12 with passes in Maths and Science is required for entry into this course.
