  • Does this mean I will spend two more years in High School?

    Yes. But these two additional years will equip you with skills that will better prepare you for the future, whether it be; Kolehiyo, Trabaho or Negosyo!

  • Undergraduate Degree Programs


    • Applicants who have completed a 12-year course of school education in a country other than Japan, or those with an equivalent education as specified by the Ministry of Education.
    • Applicants who hold an International Baccalaureate Degree granted by the International Baccalaureate Organization, which is a foundation established in accordance with Swiss Civil Law.
    • Applicants who hold an Abitur qualification to enroll at university in the Federal Republic of Germany.
    • Applicants who hold a baccalaureat to enroll at university in the French Republic.
    • Applicants who attended an educational institution in Japan established to provide education to foreigners, and there received certification from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI), or Council of International Schools (CIS).
    • Applicants whose academic abilities are judged to be equal or superior to those of a high school graduate upon individual screening of their qualifications by this university and who are 18 years of age.

    • Have completed 12-years of education based on a non-Japanese education system by the time of enrollment in Tohoku University.
      *For those who have completed 11-years of education, your eligibility will depend on your education history.
    • Official English Test Score: TOEFL iBT® 79+, TOEFL® PBT 550+ or IELTSTMAcademic 6.0+
    • Standardized Examination Scores(Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry): SAT Subject Tests, GCE A-Levels, IB, ACT without Writing, or AP

    • tests of basic academic ability: high grade passes in examinations of Secondary Education (e.g. SAT, GCSE "A" Level, International Baccalaureate), an official high school transcript, and/or the EJU (Examination for Japanese Universities)
    • English proficiency test for non-native English speakers (such as IELTS, TOEFL or other nationally recognized English proficiency examination)

    1. Find a prospective supervisor - Prospective applicants should first find a prospective supervisor before submitting an application to enrol. Find professors in your field of interest, contact them, and obtain consent to be accepted into their laboratory prior to your enrollment.

    2. Contact the educational affairs section of the school. The enrollment process differs depending on the course or graduate school. Contact the educational affairs section of the Graduate School (or the office in charge of admission) and confirm the following conditions.
    • application eligibility, schedule, and application forms
    • entrance examination conditions
    • scholarship availability
    • when and how to pay fees, apply for a dormitory
    • accommodation
