What does University of Georgia stand for?


The University of Georgia (UGA) is a public university in the state of Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1785 and is the oldest educational institution in Georgia. Its main campus is located in Athens, Georgia and covers an area of about 762 acres, with the campuses respectively named Central, East, West, North, and South Campuses. In addition to theses local campuses, UGA also has centers in Costa Rica, Cortona, Italy, and Oxford, England.

The university offers more than 200 majors and academic programs. According to the university's Office of Institutional Research, the most popular majors are Biology, Psychology, Finance, Computer Science, and International Affairs. UGA School of Law is also a top-ranked law school in the country.

  • UGA'S athletic teams are called the Georgia Bulldogs, and they participate in the NCAA Division I. The university's mascot is an English bulldog named Uga. At present, there have been 10 Ugas, with the most recent one named Uga X.
  • During home games, UGA students form a tunnel at the Tate Center parking lot to welcome players and coaches who are entering the Stanford Stadium This Saturday football tradition is called the Dawg Walk, as the march to the stadium is usually led by the costumed mascot, Hairy Dawg.
