What does University of Otago stand for?

University of Otago is the oldest university of New Zealand. It was founded in 1869 through an ordinance of the Otago Provincial Council. The main campus is located in Dunedin and the other campuses are in Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, and Southland.

The University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs through its four academic divisions: Otago Business School, Division of Health Sciences, Division of Humanities, and Division of Sciences.

The University has been recognized as one of the world's top universities. The QS World University Rankings ranks them at 151st. All other major world ranks them in the top 300.

  • Otago’s Hocken Collections is one of the foremost research libraries in New Zealand, with more than 1,136,250 pictures and photographs, and 10,272 linear metres of archives.
