The Ang Mama Kong BiyaHero Campaign was an initiative by Edukasyon.ph and UN Women as part of the broader Spotlight Initiative to eliminate violence against women in 2022. The project was designed to address the challenges faced specifically by Filipina migrant workers by leveraging digital platforms for awareness and advocacy.
The campaign's core goal was to engage and inform Filipino youth, especially the children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), on issues of safe and fair migration and the need to protect their mothers' rights. This was achieved through online engagements, including a livestream which brought together female OFWs and youth advocates to discuss migration experiences and support services. A survey was also released entitled “Youth VAW Prevention for Women Migrant Workers”. The objective of the survey was to identify the perception of the youth on their role and ways to prevent violence against women migrant workers and increase help-seeking behavior of women migrant workers, especially for mothers who are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
The project culminated in March 2022, during Women's Month, with Ang Mama kong BiyaHero Press Event and a Live Discussion, both hosted by celebrity advocate Jasmine Curtis-Smith.
These activities successfully engaged the public and media, ultimately raising awareness and disseminating critical information about the struggles and support mechanisms available to Filipina migrant workers, reinforcing the youth's role in this vital advocacy.
