The Manila Cathedral School (MCS) is a private, Roman Catholic, co-educational school founded in 1949 as a school for the Tiples, the Manila Cathedral’s all-boys choir. The institution was initially located  Intramuros, one of Manila’s oldest districts. The school was completely damaged during the outbreak of World War II. A few years after the war, Archbishop Michael J. O’Doherty, the former Archbishop of Manila along with other Diocesan priests decided to re-establish the school. In June 1949, Manila Cathedral School opened its campus in Tayuman Street.

The school was originally an educational institution exclusive for boys. Aside from the Tiples, who came from various Philippine provinces, it also accommodated those who wanted to enter priesthood as well as the poor boys from the Tondo district. By 1950, the Manila Cathedral School started accepting female students.
