St. James Academy of Malabon City became independent school from Malabon Normal School, a first Archidiocesian Catholic teacher training institution, after the Maryknoll Sisters takes the reigns of the administration. It formally opened in June 1926. The normal school and pre-school department were moved to Isaac Peral St., Manila, now United Nation Avenue in April 1936, while the grade school and highschool departments remained in Malabon. The school was named after St. James the Greater, patron saint of Bishop James Anthony Walsh, M.M., the co-founder of the Maryknoll Congregation. The school was closed down when the World War I began in 1941 but classes continued and reopened in 1945 after the war ended. The school offers Pre-school , Elementary and High School Education.

By providing a K-12 basic education program, the school offers Academic Track such as Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) strand and Humanities and Social Science (HUMSS) strand for its senior high school program.
