What does Benguet State University stand for?


Benguet State University is a government-owned university founded in 1916. Before, it was a farm school dedicated to the education of Igorot natives in the region. After four years, the school became an agricultural school, and later an agricultural high school after the Second World War. Sixty years later, then-President Ferdinand Marcos signed a Presidential Decree that brought the institution to its current status to widen the service that the school covered.
 
With three campuses around Benguet, the university currently has 7 post-graduate programs, 27 graduate programs, 25 undergraduate programs, as well as several diploma and special short courses. Undergraduate programs cover Agriculture, Agribusiness, Education, Information Technology, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Veterinary Medicine, among others. The institution has an open university for distance learning that focuses on community development, cooperative management, and non-formal education.
 
Benguet State University holds the highest accreditation of Level IV from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd). The university's academic programs are also recognized by Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and University of the Philippines (AACCUP) with Level III.
 

Benguet State University Facts:

  • Martial Arts World Champion Islay Erika Bomogao is a student of Benguet State University. She is a gold medalist, having won various mixed martial arts competitions. 
     
  • The university changed its name five times to reflect its status and coverage namely La Trinidad National Agricultural School (LTNAS), Mountain National Agricultural School (MNAS), Mountain National College (MNAC), Mountain Agricultural College (MAC), and Mountain State Agricultural College (MSAC).
     
  • The National Historical Commission awarded Benguet State University a Level II historical marker in recognition of its significance in the region.
